DeLann (Del) Williams

Del Williams was born in Flint, Michigan. After graduating from New Lothrop High School, she attended Michigan State University earning a B.A. in Human Communication in 1977. In 1980 she earned an M.A. in Communication at Arizona State University. Her Master’s thesis, “The Effects of Beneficial Situational Characteristics, Negativism, and Dogmatism on Compliance-Gaining Message Behavior,” earned an award from ASU and a top three national rating from the Speech Communication Association. In 1979 she enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Speech Communication at the University of Illinois and in 1983 she joined the faculty at the State University of New York at Fredonia in the Department of Communication/Media. In 1988, she joined the Professional & Technical Communication Department at Rochester Institute of Technology. She has taught several courses including Technical, Interpersonal, Intercultural, and Organizational Communication, Public Speaking, Persuasion, Group Decision-Making, and Conflict, Negotiation & Bargaining while her research included social influence, political, mediated and instructional communication.

In 1993 she directed a U.S. Dept. of Education grant at Kankakee Community College.The grant assisted academically talented and economically disadvantaged students in completing two years at an Illinois community college before transferring to a university. In 1996 she joined Modern Management as a survey consultant and ran an organic farming business (“Farmer in the Del”) for several years. She was a founding member of the Kankakee Farmers Market Association. For the past three years she has been a legal assistant at a civil litigation law firm in Champaign, Illinois.

Del coordinates the Champaign-Urbana Coffee Party group. She coordinated the Coffee Party’s 2012 Election Task Force. Currently, she is assisting in the promotion of the Coffee Party’s “You Know It’s Propaganda When...” video contest, administers the 2014 Election Task Force Facebook group, and is a member of the Organizer National Team.
