Powerful propaganda techniques are widely used in political advertising, more so today than ever before due to the anonymity of those who today can purchase the technology in secret, with unlimited enormous amounts of money, thanks to the 2010 Supreme Court decision “Citizens United vs. FEC.” The same techniques are also rampant in political advertising that is often disguised as journalism. Political operators know only too well how to persuade by manipulation rather than rational analysis.
Modern propaganda is distinguished from other forms of communication by its deliberate and conscious use of false or misleading information to sway public opinion. Propaganda techniques are designed to fool us because they provoke an emotional response rather than appeal to our reason.

We also are holding this contest to discover talented communicators to recruit into our growing network, and to enlist the public in exposing and analyzing propaganda techniques.
