SuperPACS Bite the Dust Tonight on Coffee Party Radio (8 pm ET)

by Eric Byler

Tonight on The Middle Ground (8 pm ET, 5 pm PT) we're talking Super-PACs with Michael Charney, who voted for Romney, and Eric Byler (me), who voted for Obama taking your calls. One of many things Michael and I agree upon: we don't like Super-PACs!

$650 million. That's what the SuperPACs spent hoping to buy for their benefactors the privilege of writing our nation's laws. Call (646) 929-2496 at 8 pm ET tonight and let us know how you feel about that.

Sheldon Adelson became famous for bragging he would spend $100 million to buy himself a Justice Department that wouldn't investigate him. But he not only lost in the presidential race, he lost every race he invested in. When asked if the money was well spent, Adelson said, "Without it, the race wouldn't have been as close."  He's right.

Please take a moment to remember Hal Ziegler, who died Sunday at the age of 80 shortly after appearing on Coffee Party Radio. Hal, you will be missed!

Karl Rove and his two groups spent $180 million on ads to oust Obama. And yet Romney went down to defeat while his party lost ground in the Senate and no less than ten teapartiers lost their bids for Congress.

However, the fact that the Super-PACs were mostly unsuccessful does NOT mean that we don't need to counter them.  What we got last week was a warped version of our democracy, skewed toward the interests of the super-rich. The Congress that will be sworn in will be no less corrupt than the one that is leaving. In other words, we still have work to do.

Join us at 8PM EST / 5PM PST, and please CALL IN to tell us what you think: 646-929-2495.  After we hear from you, we'll unveil our plan to raise public awareness, and send a message to Washington that the United States is not for sale, and, while we're happy they failed this time, we're not going to let up in our efforts to counter the corrupting influence of money in politics.

PS: We are 100 percent people-powered by small contributions and membership dues. That's why we are free to follow the truth where ever it leads us. No oil barons, no partisan operatives, no casino moguls. We're proud of the fact that our average donation is less than $30. Please become a member, and/or help us along when you can.

The SuperPACs bit the dust a week ago, but that doesn't mean we don't have to counter them. #InvoiceTheSuperPACS
