Call it what you will: a tirade, a rant, a breath of fresh air. Dylan Ratigan said what needed to be said in a way that made many of us think, "Yes! Finally. Someone said it on TV!"
This is the part that really resonated with me. This is what Dylan wants from President Obama:
I would like him to go to the people of the United States of America and say, “People of the United States of America, your Congress is bought, your Congress is incapable of making legislation on healthcare, banking, trade, or taxes because if they do it, they will lose their political funding and they won’t do it. But I’m the President of the United States, and I won’t have a country that is run by a bought Congress. So I’m not going to work with a bought Congress and try to be Mr. Big Guy ... I’m going to abandon the bought Congress like Teddy Roosevelt did, and I’m going to go to the people of the United States get rid of the bought Congress." ... Until a President says that’s the problem and says he’s going to fix it, there is no policy that I can possibly see no matter how brilliant your idea may be or your idea or my idea or her idea or your idea at home, is that idea will not happen as long as there’s a capacity to basically fire a politician who disagrees with me by taking funding away from him. Is that a fair assessment?
He is right. At some point, we have to draw the line on corruption in this country. With so much at stake, why pretend that this Congress actually represents the people? That it hasn't been bought? Is this too much to ask of our President?
This could be a genuine Howard Beale "mad as hell" moment that gets people to start shouting out of their windows to create a powerful chorus. Ratigan's rant could be to the American people what Rick Santelli's rant was to the Tea Party & corporate profiteers. A major wake up call for the public that puts Washington on notice.
Let's make it so.
This is the choice we are facing today: (1) Stand together as We the People and say, "We do not consent to being ruled by billionaires and multinational corporations." Or, (2) Silently consent to the continuous destruction of our democracy.
If you choose #1, join the Enough Is Enough! March to demonstrate the true Will of the People.
We want democracy restored to our country. We must confront, head-on, the mountain of money sitting on top of Capitol Hill, strangling our government and corrupting our process. This is not a partisan problem. This is a systemic problem.
Let's put aside our social and cultural differences and unite as a people to restore a government of the people, by the people, for the people. Let's do this for America, for our children and future generations who will remember us for the choices we make at this critical crossroad in American history.
