The Culprit behind Our Polarization Problem – All of Us
I was recently asked to serve on a panel talking about “Reinventing Bipartisan” with a stellar group of experts from across the political spectrum. Of course, one of the first things many of us noted was the concept of “bipartisanship” left a lot of people out. The purpose of the panel was to talk about possible solutions to move past the gridlock that is happening at the federal level, and what we as citizens could do about it. [more]
A message to our members
by Tim Danahey, Coffee Party USA Director for Public and Member Relations
Much is happening in our country, good and bad. This Woodrow Wilson quote came to me over the weekend.
“I have unwittingly ruined my country. The Politicization of the Congressional Budget Office?

Read this sad and interesting story about removing the messenger. [more]
Wall Street Takeover of Charity

The donor gets the full write-off during the tax year but, it turns out that charities are only getting a fraction of the amount donated in the current year. Wall Street keeps the rest in their coffers indefintely while charging fees. It's a ridiculous process some Congressmen have tried to close but lobbyists are ruling the roost. [more]
Banks Exploit the Risk of a Government Shutdown to Rollback Rules
Dodd-Frank was supposed to provide a basic level of protection for the U.S.financial system. It didn't bring back Glass-Stegall but it was a start because it tried to make the banks accountable for its riskiest practices. Needless to say, the banks didn't like their style being crimped. So the banking lobbyists have persuaded Congress to rollback protections against derivative swaps. The banking industry believes it is oppressive that government prohibits them from using depositors money for speculative investments unrelated to lending. You may expect the bill that keeps government running to include the rollback. [more]
