As you know, many of us feel that there is something broken in our government. The bottom line has become money. Ordinary Americans feel our government is not accessible and therefore opt out of the political process.
Rather than give in to cynicism, we should seize on the urgency of the moment and work towards restoring democracy for the People. There is really only one solution - we must become active citizens in the democratic process.
Coffee Party USA is launching its Coffee with Main Street campaign from now throughout the month of June. Let's educate ourselves and others about the impact of money in politics. Let's work towards restoring democracy so that our government works for Main Street. We will take a Coffee Party vote on actions on June 21-22.
We are partnering with the producers of Casino Jack and the United States of Money, a powerful documentary film about lobbyist Jack Abramoff and the influence of money in politics. Organize a group to watch the film and discuss ways to get Wall Street influence out of our government.
Go to our Organizer's Guide for Coffee with Main Street for a suggested list of activities.
Check out our Democracy Tool Box for a useful set of links to be an informed citizen. Share with others. However, before the vote on June 15th, please review the Fair Election Now Act (HR 1826) and (S 752) and the DISCLOSE Act.
Wake Up and Stand Up, Main Street!
