House Floor Vote on Fair Elections - Coming in October

The Fair Elections Now Act is expected to reach the House floor for a full vote in late September or early October. We know that a number of Congresspersons will vote for the bill even though they are not currently co-sponsors, which means that we are within striking distance of passing this bill out of the House. The need for grassroots action is now greater than ever. We hope that all of you have already called your Congressperson to ask them to support Fair Elections. If you haven't, please go to Fix Congress First and take care of that right now.

This week, we are asking you to meet your Congressperson or a senior member of his/her staff. You may arrange a Coffee with Congress  or perhaps you can speak with them at a district event planned by the member's office. A face meeting of any sort gives you a chance to announce the Coffee Party as well as the legislative priorities that provide an answer to the problem of money in politics. We have created a handout you can leave at his/her office that encapsulates some thoughts about money in politics and describes the Coffee Party.

With your sincere effort, you will create a narrative you can use to publicize your efforts to the media and to other Coffee Partiers. By reaching out to your Congressperson, you earn credentials you can use to tell your story. Take a look at our new Letter to the Editor guide to see why this effort pays dividends even if your Congresspersion doesn't agree to meet with your chapter.
