Fair Elections Now Act -- Vote Scheduled for Thurs, September 23rd

The House Administration Committee will vote on the Fair Elections Now Act on Sept 23rd. This is the last step before the bill advances to the floor for a full House vote. As you may recall, Fair Elections is a voluntary system that finances the campaigns of qualified candidates for Congress so they can run a competitive race without courting special interests. We are sure to be buzzing about the advancement of this bill while we're in Louisville for the first Coffee Party Convention.

We hope you will go to Fix Congress First and call your member of Congress again. You may want to mention that numerous national polls show overwhelming support for Fair Elections as well as the members of Congress who promise to vote in favor of the measure. You'll be glad you made the call.

Right now, it's especially important to call committe members and ask for a "yea" vote:

Robert Brady (PA1) 202-224-4731
Michael Capuano (MA8) 202-225-5111
Artur Davis (AL7) 202-225-2665
Susan Davis (CA53) 202-225-2040
Charles Gonzalez (TX20) 202-225-3236
Zoe Lofgren (CA16) 202-225-3072
Daniel Lungren (CA3) 202-225-5716
Gregg Harper (MS3) 202-225-5031
Kevin McGarthy (CA22) 202-225-2915

Related note -- on September 17, 1787, the U.S. Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution. Today's date has since been celebrated as National Citizenship Day -- an ideal day to call Congress for Fair Elections, we think.

Both the committee and floor votes may be quite close. We hope you tell everyone you know to call their member of Congress. Please consider sending a link to this post with a personal comment about why we need Fair Elections, right NOW!!! You can add impact by writing a letter to the editor of your local newspaper to alert more people. Editors notice when they get numerous letters on a single topic. Be sure to tell your readers about the Sept. 24th vote and ask them to call Congress. You'll be glad you did this.
