How to Plan and Publicize an Event
- Identify local citizens and/or groups interested in working with you to organize a Coffee Break event.
- Decide on an action. CLICK HERE for a list of suggested actions.
- Choose a location (State Capitol Building, a corporate store front, or a well-trafficked public space). You may need to apply for a permit. Check with your local police department.
- Check out our Coffee Break Tool Kit.
- Make a list of what needs to be done and what materials need to be prepared.
- Assign tasks to your fellow volunteers and come up with a time line for completing them.
- Promote your event:
- Use this tool to create an event on our website so others in your area can sign-up for it
- Notify your personal Facebook, email, and phone contacts.
- Send a press release to local media outlets.

- Create an event page on Facebook
- Use your Twitter account
- Print fliers and post them in places where you know they will be seen. See our Tool Kit, or:

- Send notices to online community calendars.
- Ask local radio stations to announce your event. Click here to learn how to write an effective PSA.
Finally, don't forget to document and share your event. Arrange to have someone take digital photos and/or video footage.
